Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to improve its appearance, its function, or both. As an ENT surgeon, Dr. Marwan focuses on results that look natural and let you breathe freely.

Overview

Rhinoplasty is surgery to change the shape or size of the nose. It can be purely aesthetic, purely functional (to improve breathing — often combined with septoplasty), or both. An ENT surgeon assesses the nasal bones, cartilage, and internal airway together, so the nose is not only refined in appearance but continues to work well. The operation is usually done under general anaesthesia and takes one to two hours; a small splint supports the nose for about a week while it settles. Because the nose keeps refining for several months, the final result becomes clear gradually.

Reasons people consider it

  • A nasal hump, wide tip, or asymmetry they would like refined
  • A nose that looks out of balance after an injury
  • A blocked nose from a bent septum (functional rhinoplasty)
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose during exercise or sleep
  • Wanting both breathing and appearance addressed in one operation
  • A previous rhinoplasty they would like revised

When to see a doctor

  • You want a realistic assessment of what surgery can and cannot change
  • Nasal blockage accompanies the cosmetic concern
  • Breathing problems followed a nasal injury
  • You are researching options and want a surgeon-led consultation

What to expect

  • A consultation assessing the nose inside and out, and your goals
  • A clear, realistic discussion of achievable results
  • Functional rhinoplasty / septorhinoplasty when breathing is also affected
  • Surgery under general anaesthesia, usually as a day or overnight case
  • A splint for about a week and guidance through the months of healing

Common questions

Is rhinoplasty for appearance or for breathing?

It can be either or both. Functional rhinoplasty improves breathing — often by also straightening the septum — while aesthetic rhinoplasty refines shape. An ENT surgeon can address both in one operation.

How long is the recovery after rhinoplasty?

Most people return to normal activities in one to two weeks once the splint is removed and the main swelling settles. Subtle swelling continues to fade over several months as the final shape appears.

Will there be visible scars?

Incisions are usually placed inside the nostrils, or as a tiny scar across the base of the nose (open technique) that becomes very hard to see. Your surgeon will explain which approach suits your nose.

What is the right age for rhinoplasty?

Aesthetic rhinoplasty is usually best once the nose has finished growing — generally the mid-to-late teens, a little earlier in girls than boys. Surgery to improve breathing can be considered at other ages when there is a clear functional need. A consultation is the best way to judge timing.

Are the results of rhinoplasty permanent?

The structural changes are lasting. The nose continues to settle for several months and, like the rest of the face, changes gently with age over the years, but the reshaping itself does not reverse. A clear plan at the consultation helps make the result one you are happy with long term.
